While the original Dragon Ball anime followed Goku through childhood into adulthood, Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of his adulthood life, but at the same time parallels the maturation of his son, Gohan, as well as other characters from Dragon Ball and more. The separation between the series is also significant as the latter series takes on a more dramatic and serious tone.

Dante and his partner, Ace Dragon, set off for Japan, the birthplace of Beyblade. But the path to glory won’t be easy; plenty of tough competitors and Gamma Beys stand in their way, among them some of the best to ever let it rip. The everyday Sanyo family gets an unexpected surprise in the shape of a new lodger-Hattori is a ninja boy who has come down from the Iga mountains to attend normal school. Befriending Kenichi Sanyo, who is the same age as he, Hattori starts attending school undercover, occasionally accompanied by his brother, Shinzo, Shishimaru the ninja dog, and Kenichi’s friend, Yumeko. The gang is also threatened by the rival Koga ninja, Amara, and his evil sidekick, Keo the Shadow-cat.
